WP has learned about the dissatisfaction of several countries with Trump's Gas plan
US President Donald Trump's plan to deploy international forces in the Gaza Strip raises concerns about the authorities of states that could send military personnel to the enclave. This was reported on November 29 by The Washington Post (WP).
"They (the United States) want international stabilizing forces to enter Gaza and restore, quote, law and order, and crush any resistance. That's the problem. No one wants to do this," said a senior Indonesian Foreign Ministry official.
Indonesia, which had planned to send up to 20,000 troops, is now considering sending a smaller contingent; similarly, Azerbaijan has revised its plans, and the Arab states have not agreed to participate, WP writes.
According to the newspaper, discussions are underway on the composition of the international forces, designed for 15-20 thousand troops, and their tasks to demilitarize the enclave, ensure border security and support the civilian population.
A number of questions remain open: where to deploy troops, as well as whether international forces will protect civilian "safe" areas that are planned to be created in part of Gaza, the article clarifies.
The adoption of an American draft resolution in support of Trump's plan to establish peace in the Gaza Strip following a vote by the UN Security Council was reported on Monday, November 17. Later, Trump congratulated the whole world on this occasion. According to him, this project will go down in the history of the United Nations.
On November 18, the Russian Foreign Ministry reported that the US resolution on resolving the conflict in the Gaza Strip contradicts international decisions that envisage the creation of the state of Palestine. The ministry also criticized the methods of promoting the American resolution — without a good-faith discussion, taking into account the comments of other delegations.
