IT expert Daniil Borislavsky warned that there is a noticeable increase in fraud during the Black Friday period, especially related to fake delivery notifications.

In conversation with Lenta.Ru On Friday, November 28, the expert noted that the scheme had become much more complicated and convincing compared to previous SMS phishing attacks like "you have received a package." Previously, scammers limited themselves to short messages asking them to follow a link or call back, but now, according to Daniil Borislavsky, they create full-fledged websites that are practically indistinguishable from the pages of delivery services.

He explained that artificial intelligence (AI) can automatically generate the "movement history" of a parcel — from sorting to ready for delivery — and adjust the statuses to the moment the page is opened, creating the illusion of updates. In addition, the attackers use AI to create fake photos: images of boxes with labels and barcodes, pictures allegedly from warehouse cameras or photos of a "courier" look like real materials of logistics systems.

Borislavsky stressed that any unexpected package should be perceived as a potential trap. According to him, scammers usually pursue three goals: to gain access to a Telegram account, to lure confirmation codes from services, and only then to try to steal money.

He called for checking the status of shipments only through official applications, websites or personal accounts of delivery services.

In October, the Russian Interior Ministry reported that there were five of the most common schemes for deceiving Russians related to food delivery services. The first one includes fake websites and applications that copy popular delivery services.
