During the heating season, the indoor air becomes dry, and water evaporates from the skin faster than it is replenished. This is especially noticeable on the face and hands. At the same time, the horny scales of the epidermis peel off unevenly, microcracks appear, and the skin becomes more sensitive. Anastasia Shibayeva, a cosmetologist, and experts from the Golden Apple told Izvestia about this on November 30.

Dryness worsens the appearance of fine wrinkles, as well as exacerbates chronic dermatoses, including eczema, atopic dermatitis and acne.

"Hot and dry air from radiators increases transepidermal water loss. The face is affected by a combination of heat and low humidity, which leads to increased sensitivity and inflammation. On the body, the skin becomes rough, cracks, and the protective barrier is broken. Prolonged exposure to such conditions increases tightness and itching," said the cosmetologist.

For care, experts recommend setting up basic home care with gentle cleansing without aggressive surfactants. Foams and cream gels are preferred.

Moisturizers should contain glycerin, hyaluronic acid, ceramides and squalane. Nourishing creams with jojoba, shea butter and argan oil help restore the lipid barrier. In the office, it is important to focus on hydration: humidifiers and regular drinking of water are necessary, 1.5–2 liters per day.

It is possible to enhance the effect with the help of bioreparation and biorevitalization procedures.

Creams are recommended to restore the lipid barrier and retain moisture, especially in the evening and on dry areas of the body. Sprays and lotions are convenient for quick hydration of the face and hands during the day, but they do not replace creams.

"Moisturizing masks with aloe and pharmaceutical products such as ceramide creams, cosmetics with panthenol and glycerin are suitable for preventing skin damage. Masks should be soft, without aggressive acids or scrubs, so as not to worsen dryness," warned cosmetologist Shibaeva.

Skin care varies depending on the season and conditions. In winter and when heating is running, it is recommended to use more dense moisturizers and nutrients. In summer, light gel textures are used at high humidity, while maintaining the integrity of the epidermal barrier. To protect the skin, experts recommend avoiding sudden temperature changes, taking care of your hands when using gloves in contact with water and chemicals, including fats and omega-3s in your diet, and avoiding aggressive peels and acids during periods of severe dryness for sensitive skin.

On November 18, Olga Kokhas, a trichologist and founder of the Eurasian Trichological Association, listed the rules of hair care in winter. She recommended limiting the use of hairspray, explaining that frost already contributes to moisture loss, which causes hair to become dry and brittle, and their structure is disrupted.
