Artificial intelligence (AI) is becoming a key tool for online cinemas that seek to reduce selection time and keep viewers' attention in an abundance of content. It is AI that helps online platforms to combat "digital indecision" and increase user engagement. Ruslan Dolgopolov, an expert in the field of digital media and AI technologies, head of the Gazprom ID Operator group, told Izvestia on November 28.

"The modern user is faced with a unique problem: the abundance of content does not make the choice easier, but, on the contrary, makes it more difficult. The average viewer spends a significant amount of time studying descriptions, trailers, ratings, and reviews, trying to figure out if a particular movie or series is right for them. This process can be tedious and unproductive: in some cases, the time spent choosing exceeds the time spent watching it," the source said.

According to him, computer vision algorithms and large language models analyze video materials at a deep level: they recognize characters, evaluate the emotional tone of scenes, identify key plot twists and build detailed metadata that improves recommendations. The technology is capable of processing thousands of hours of video in a matter of days, forming a set of the most significant fragments.

The expert notes that short vertical videos lasting 15-30 seconds are created based on the fragments selected by the system. These mini-videos turn into an intuitive "video showcase", allowing the user to understand the essence of a movie or TV series in a few seconds. Testing of such formats shows a 30-40% increase in engagement and a decrease in the average selection time from 15-20 minutes to several seconds. AI also personalizes the selection of videos based on the preferences of a particular user.

"Pilot projects demonstrate the high efficiency of using AI in the selection and presentation of video content. Users who watch short videos are much more likely to switch to watching full movies and TV series. Data analysis shows that the introduction of short AI-generated snippets increases conversion by 20-35% compared to traditional recommendation methods," Dolgopolov said.

He concluded that the use of artificial intelligence opens up prospects for a new stage in the development of media services. AI is no longer an internal automation tool and is becoming part of a creative ecosystem: it helps structure giant video libraries, create adaptive collections, and turn content search into an exciting and dynamic process. The expert believes that intelligent video marketing has already become a necessary element of the strategic growth of online platforms, as it allows us to effectively deal with the key problem of viewers - the difficulty of choice in an era of content abundance.

Earlier, on August 4, it was reported that the creation of universal artificial intelligence (AGI), which has cognitive capabilities at the human level, may occur within the next decade. It is noted that responsible implementation of AGI can lead to "radical abundance", increasing human productivity and paving the way to a new level of technological prosperity.
