The winners of the National Sports Award 2025 were awarded in Moscow

On November 27, Moscow hosted the 16th National Sports Award 2025, one of the most prestigious awards in the field of physical culture and sports. During the event, the achievements of Russian sports were noted and the award winners were awarded.

"The course remains unchanged — a return to the global sports family, where Russia rightfully has a key place at the table, in a unique way to our country's contribution <...> to world sports. You can't lead us astray," Sports Minister Mikhail Degtyarev said in his welcoming speech.

He also congratulated the Paralympic athletes who were admitted to international competitions with the right to compete under the Russian flag.

In addition to the Paralympians, judo athletes returned to international sports.

"We are very proud and glad that the first sport, the first team that represents our country under the flag at international competitions, is judo. On behalf of the entire Russian judo family <...>, I would like to convey my deep gratitude to the President of the International Judo Federation, Marius Visor, who supported me throughout this difficult period," said Valentin Khabirov, Vice President of the Russian Judo Federation.

The award identified the best athletes, coaches, sports institutions, and even the region. who became a leader in the field of sports. Thus, swimmer Kirill Prigoda won in the nomination "The Pride of Russia Athlete of the Year". Cyclist Yana Burlakova won a similar award among the athletes.

At the moment, Russian sport is aimed at returning results and achievements in order to be competitive at international competitions.

"The goals and objectives are high, we need the first position. <...> We have an understanding of how and where to move, so everything is still ahead," said Svetlana Romashina, head coach of the Russian national synchronized swimming team.

Earlier that day, the IJF Executive Committee returned to Russian athletes the right to compete in international tournaments under the national flag. The organization's press service stressed that the decision reflects the IJF's confidence in "ethical guarantees" and promotes respect, solidarity and peace.

On October 21, the International Ski and Snowboard Federation (FIS) did not allow Russian athletes to participate in international competitions. The Russian Ski Racing Federation (FLGR) noted that this decision is discriminatory and contrary to the principles of political neutrality. Russian athletes have been banned by the FIS from performing on the world stage since March 2022. Degtyarev later said that Russia had appealed the FIS decision not to allow Russian athletes to participate in the competition.

On November 15, Russian bench shooting athlete Lada Denisova entered the final voting as a contender for the title of the best athlete of the year according to the International Shooting Sports Federation (ISSF). Six-time world champion Jeanette Heggerstad (Norway), Brenda Rodriguez (Brazil), Constantia Nicolau (Cyprus) and two-time European champion, Danish Rikke Ibsen are also competing for the title. The name of the winner will be announced on December 5.
