The Tbilisi City Court has remanded in custody ten people accused of organizing riots in Tbilisi during a protest rally on October 4, which took place in parallel with the municipal elections. This was reported on November 26 by the News Georgia portal.

"Although the investigative measures in the case have already been completed, the threat of hiding the accused remains," the publication says, citing the words of Judge Irakli Shvangiradze.

He noted that there are no new circumstances in the case that would allow changing the measure of restraint.

Among the defendants are opera singer Paata Burchuladze, members of the United National Movement Murtaz Zodelava and Irakli Nadiradze, representative of the Agmashenebeli Strategy party Paata Manjgaladze and former Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Georgian Armed Forces Lasha Beridze.

Activists Irakli Chkhvirkia, Guri Zhvania, Nika Gventsadze, and Tornike Mchedlishvili are also on trial, and Irakli Shaishmelashvili, the former head of the operational planning department of the Georgian Interior Ministry's Department for Special Assignments, who was arrested in absentia, is abroad.

The defendants are charged under articles "calls to overthrow the government in Georgia" and "organization of group violence," which can be punishable by up to nine years in prison.

A total of 64 people were arrested in the case on October 4.

Protests against the ruling Georgian Dream party began in Tbilisi on October 4 against the backdrop of the country's parliamentary elections. Correspondent Giorgi Jabishvili, who covered the protesters' march, noted that not only Georgian national flags could be seen in the crowd, but also American flags. The protesters broke the fence near the presidential palace.

Later, on October 19, the Bm portal.ge, citing the Georgian Interior Ministry, reported that 14 protesters on Rustaveli Avenue were detained in Tbilisi because they artificially blocked the roadway and obstructed traffic.
