The African Union has condemned the military coup in Guinea-Bissau and called for the release of President Oumaru Sisoka Embalo. This is stated in the statement of the union on November 27.

"Chairman of the African Union Commission <... Mahmoud Ali Yusuf unequivocally condemns the military coup that took place in Guinea-Bissau, which resulted in the arrest of President Umaro Sisoku Embalo, senior officials and political leaders," the document says.

The Chairman called for the release of the President and all detained officials, and calls on all parties to exercise restraint to prevent any further deterioration of the situation.

On the same day, Reuters reported that General Horta N'tama had become President of Guinea-Bissau for the transitional period.

The day before, military personnel in Guinea-Bissau announced the closure of all borders of the country. In addition, they stated that the entire State is under their full control, and reported that they were "suspending the electoral process" in Guinea-Bissau.

The Russian Embassy in the country was put on high alert against the background of the current situation. Later, they reported that the situation in the country had returned to normal.

On the same day, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said that Moscow was concerned about the situation in Guinea-Bissau, was monitoring the events there and called on political forces to show restraint. The diplomat also called on the parties to make all necessary efforts to stabilize the situation, maintain order and act within the law.
