Ryabkov announced the emergence of healthy realism in US politics under Trump
With the arrival of US President Donald Trump in the White House, elements of healthy realism appeared in Washington's foreign policy, and the United States became more open to dialogue. This was stated on November 27 by Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov during a round table in the Federation Council of Russia.
"As for the United States, it seems that under Trump they have temporarily moved away from the constant of global democratization. Washington's foreign policy has developed some healthy elements of realism. <...> The Americans are now open to a direct and frank conversation," RIA Novosti quoted the diplomat as saying.
As Ryabkov noted, in their practical activities, Americans tend to act more based on national interests, as "they understand them themselves." At the same time, the United States does not intend to give up its claims to global dominance, which they express with the slogans "America first" and "Peace through force."
The day before, Ryabkov noted that relations between Russia and the United States continue to be in the early stages of the normalization process, but the overall success of this process is not yet guaranteed.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on November 11 that Moscow was ready to return to preparing talks between Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Trump. He also noted that Budapest remains the preferred venue for talks between Putin and Trump.
Russian Presidential aide Yuri Ushakov said on November 12 that the situation in relations between Russia and the United States could not be called a pause, as contacts between the two countries were held at various levels.
