Over the past day, 27 accidents involving minors have been registered on Russian roads, in which 28 young road users, including nine passengers, were injured. One child, a pedestrian, was killed.
In the city of Vyksa, Nizhny Novgorod region, a female car driver, while driving in a residential area, did not notice a 12-year-old schoolboy returning from class in front of her and knocked him down. Another car ran over the fallen child, as a result of which the teenager died.
The State Traffic Inspectorate urges motorists to strictly observe traffic regulations and be more attentive on the roads of settlements and cities. Special care should be taken when maneuvering or driving through courtyards and house territories, as well as road sections adjacent to kindergartens and schools. It is necessary to reduce the speed of movement to the minimum in advance in order to have time to react to a sudden change in the road situation at any moment. Special care and attentiveness should be exercised when driving in a residential area, where the behavior of children can be unpredictable, the Traffic police emphasize.
"Once again, we remind parents of the need to be more attentive to their children. Whenever possible, always accompany young pedestrians to school, sports sections, and educational classes, and after they complete, go home. Do not leave underage road users unattended. At the same time, be sure to use retroreflective elements on the clothes of child pedestrians to improve their visibility to drivers on the road in the evening," said Police Colonel Sergei Hrantskevich, head of the Department for Road Safety Promotion and Prevention of child traffic injuries at the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.
The day before, on November 27, in Mytishchi near Moscow, a garbage truck driver hit a 63–year-old woman crossing the roadway outside the pedestrian crossing area. As a result of the accident, the pedestrian died.
