The decision of the European Union (EU) on the development of the 20th package of anti-Russian sanctions may be adopted in early 2026. This was reported by the Politico newspaper on November 27, citing European diplomats.

"As for the verdict on the 20th package of sanctions against Russia, it is not expected until the holidays," the article says.

It is noted that the European Commission (EC) will formulate proposals for new restrictions in January — they will be aimed at limiting Russia's income from energy exports.

Earlier, on November 14, the head of European diplomacy, Kaya Kallas, announced that the EU is currently working on the 20th package of anti-Russian sanctions. According to her, the imposed sanctions can work more effectively if they are supported by the EU's foreign partners. Later, the EU Council added 10 individuals - representatives of the Federal Penitentiary Service and the judicial system of the Russian Federation to the sectional list for human rights violations.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov noted on November 6 that EU countries are likely to continue to invent new restrictions against Russians, exacerbating the current situation with additional elements.
