Rospotrebnadzor has denied reports of a "new unusual virus" appearing in Russia. This was announced on November 27 on the service's website.

Earlier, information appeared in the media about the spread of a "new virus" and the appearance of symptoms that do not resemble ordinary acute respiratory viral infections.

Rospotrebnadzor explained that currently there is a seasonal increase in the incidence of acute respiratory viral infections and influenza in the country, and influenza A(H3N2) viruses predominate among the identified influenza viruses.

"Experts have not registered any new atypical pathogens in Russia. The situation is under control," the statement said.

They recalled that vaccination remains the most effective protection against colds.

On November 25, Rospotrebnadzor reported that more than 73 million citizens, which is almost half of the country's population, were vaccinated as part of the All-Russian flu vaccination campaign. It was clarified that the situation with the incidence of seasonal respiratory infections worsened in the 47th week. Thus, the incidence of acute respiratory viral infections and influenza increased by 17.9%, and 6.4 thousand residents of the country were diagnosed with these diagnoses. Influenza A(H3N2) viruses predominate among the identified strains. The incidence of COVID-19 in Russia increased by 13.8%, and about 8.2 thousand people were diagnosed.
