Scammers on the eve of Mother's Day, which this year is celebrated on November 30, can imitate the voice of their victim's daughter or son with the help of artificial intelligence in order to extort money. Anton Nemkin, a member of the State Duma Committee on Information Policy, Information Technologies and Communications, told RIA Novosti about this on November 27.

He said that scammers traditionally become more active on the eve of the next holiday and people who are looking for gifts online for their relatives become especially vulnerable.

"The caller can imitate the voice of a daughter or son who urgently buys a gift for his mother and asks to transfer money. Such scenarios are dangerous because they affect human emotions, and the number of such attacks has continued to grow in recent months," Nemkin said.

The deputy said that one of the most common schemes is fake online stores with low prices for gifts. The scammers promise their victim a fast delivery of the goods by the holiday date and ask them to pay for it immediately. After payment, the caller disappears, adds "Газета.Ru ".

Another scheme involves notifications from delivery services that ask you to pay and provide personal information in order to allegedly ship the goods. To do this, a person is sent a link to a phishing website, in some cases copying the design and logos of large logistics companies, and then pay for the parcel.

Attackers seek to use topics relevant to users in order to increase the chances of successful deception.
