The suspect in the Washington shooting had previously worked in Afghanistan for various US government agencies, including intelligence. This was announced on November 27 by CIA Director John Ratcliffe.

"The administration of [former US President Joe] Biden justified the admission of the alleged attacker to the United States <...> because of his past work with the US government, including the CIA," Ratcliffe said in an interview with Fox News.
