Argentina has officially submitted the candidacy of the current head of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Rafael Grossi, for the post of UN Secretary General for the period 2027-2031. This was reported on November 26 by the infobae agency.

"The Republic of Argentina has the honor to nominate Ambassador Grossi for the post of UN Secretary General," the agency wrote, citing a statement from the Argentine Foreign Ministry.

It is noted that the document highlights Grossi's experience: more than four decades of diplomatic work, leadership of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and contribution to ensuring international security and nuclear control.

Earlier, on September 25, it was reported that Russian President Vladimir Putin and Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko welcomed Grossi's willingness to nominate his candidacy for the post of UN Secretary General. Grossi was among the leaders of the foreign delegations with whom the Russian president spoke on the sidelines of the Global Atomic Forum earlier in the day.
