On November 26, Russians, in an interview with Izvestia, shared the story of the rescue of Vietnamese during the flood in Nha Trang.

The guys came from the towns of Korolev and Krasnogorsk near Moscow, as well as from Crimea. According to them, they are not professional yachtsmen — they just like to sail.

Russians came to Vietnam to develop their business. When the disaster hit Nha Trang, they decided to help the locals: there was no longer any way to take people ashore, so they sailed to multi-storey buildings. The men said that they were engaged in rescuing people on their inflatable sailing catamaran. Rain and cold water served as obstacles during the rescue operation.

"The water was very cold, even though it's tropical. In addition, a person loses heat quickly. An hour of time in the water and he catches hypothermia," says Vitaly Nalivaiko.

According to another man, Igor Lopunov, the rapid flow of the river demolished cars and market stands. It was difficult to get to the injured, there was a risk that it would not be possible to get back out.

"We decided to help whomever we can, and in places where there is access to people. The locals living on the upper floors helped us and showed us where people were, pointed out to us who needed help," he said.

The first rescued family consisted of seven people — two school-age children and five adults. Nalivaiko noted that all of them could not swim.

"We had to put life jackets on them and put them on their backs. They spent a long time in cold water," the man said.

Other flood victims included two women and a small boy who were stuck on the roof of a house.

Lopunov recalled that at one point there were six people and three dogs on their catamaran. According to the Russians, there were 30 people rescued in total, not counting those who were taken to the hospital.

On November 26, two Russians, Anastasia and Irina Matveev, told Izvestia about how volunteers organized a large-scale operation to help local residents affected by tropical rains and floods in Vietnam.

According to Anastasia, the disaster began with tropical rains, which forced the authorities to drain the dam. This led to large—scale flooding of the city: in some areas, the water level reached 3 m. Russian volunteers quickly organized themselves - they created chat rooms for coordination, found boats and scooters to evacuate people.

On November 22, Reuters reported that the greatest damage was caused by flooding in the provinces of Daklak, Khanh Hoa and Zialai, where more than 200,000 homes, schools, medical institutions and administrative buildings were destroyed and damaged. Economic losses, according to preliminary information, were estimated at 9 trillion DONG (over $340 million).

The VnExpress newspaper reported on November 23 that the death toll from the floods in Vietnam exceeded 90 people, with 12 more missing. According to the newspaper, the rains began to weaken, but some areas remained flooded, and hundreds of families continued to experience difficulties: floods damaged more than 1.1 thousand houses.

On November 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin sent condolences to the Secretary General of the Communist Party of Vietnam Toh Lam and President Luong Kyong in connection with the consequences of flooding in the central regions of the republic.
