- The US Attorney's office has dropped the case against Trump on interference in the 2020 election.
The prosecutor's office of the US state of Georgia announced the termination of the case against US President Donald Trump on charges of interfering in the 2020 presidential election. This became known on November 26 from a petition for termination of criminal prosecution signed by Acting District Attorney Peter Skandalakis.
"After a thorough study of the case materials, consideration of the applicable legislation and judicial practice, as well as before the transfer of the case to the jury, the nolle prosequi (Termination of record keeping) petitions for a decision. — Ed.)," the document says.
The reason for the decision is called "respect for the interests of justice and ensuring the finality of the court decision."
Newsweek magazine reported on November 14 that the court dismissed charges against Trump in three cases in which he was suspected of interfering in the 2020 elections in Georgia. Earlier, the American leader signed a decree pardoning dozens of those accused of involvement in election interference. Among them is the former mayor of New York and Trump's lawyer Rudy Giuliani.
