The administration of US President Donald Trump wants to release at least 100 prisoners from prison in Belarus as part of an agreement with Minsk. This was reported on November 26 by the Reuters news agency.

"After [Belarus] released dozens of detainees in several waves after President Donald Trump took office in January, U.S. officials want to secure the release of more than 100 prisoners as part of a single deal," the publication says.

It is noted that Washington intends to achieve the desired agreement within the framework of rapprochement between the United States and Belarus. Data on the prisoners under discussion and the possible timing of their release are not disclosed, clarifies "Газета.Ru ".

According to the newspaper's sources, the United States is represented at the talks by John Cole, the special envoy for Belarus appointed earlier this month.

On October 14, President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko said that Minsk was ready to conclude a big deal with Washington if the interests of the republic were taken into account, on which, in his opinion, the resumption of relations with the United States should be based. On November 20, the Belarusian leader announced that negotiations between Minsk and Washington are expected in December.
