Poland will receive $51 billion under the EU defense investment program
Poland will receive $51 billion as part of the European Union's defense investment program. This was announced on November 26 by Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk.
"Poland will receive €44 billion ($50.91 billion) under the European Union's SAFE program to strengthen its armed forces," the Reuters news agency quoted Tusk as saying.
Tusk stressed that part of the funds would be allocated to unmanned systems for the so-called "Eastern Shield of the EU" on the border of the union with Russia and Belarus.
According to him, the financing will also cover space projects, the development of artificial intelligence in the field of defense, equipping the army, police and border guards, as well as the SAFE Baltic program, which strengthens the maritime and border presence in the Baltic region.
"We will also be able to finance roads and railways that are directly related to the security of the Polish state," the prime minister added.
Earlier in the day, Tusk announced that Poland would purchase three submarines for the country's Navy. According to him, the purchase of these vessels will mean investments in the Polish shipbuilding industry on an unprecedented scale.
The Interia portal reported on the same day that the only submarine of the Polish Navy, ORP Orzeł, had failed during sailing and would not be able to participate in the celebration of Navy Day. It was noted that ORP Orzeł is a Soviet submarine of project 877 "Halibut", adopted in 1986.
