Russians' spending on new cars increased by almost 40% in a month
The cost of Russians to purchase new passenger cars in October amounted to 568 billion rubles, which is 38.6% more than in September of the same year. At the same time, the volume of cars sold turned out to be the largest since November 2024, TASS reported on November 26, citing a study by Gazprombank Autoleasing and Autostat.
Russians' spending on buying new cars in mid-autumn was 4.7% higher than a year ago (542.6 billion rubles in October 2024). The financial capacity of the market has exceeded half a trillion rubles for the first time in the last 12 months, setting a new record. The previous maximum in terms of costs was recorded just in October last year, experts estimate.
Most of the money is still spent on buying Chinese cars, but the share of such cars is decreasing. In October, 290.9 billion rubles were spent on them (+36.9% compared to September).
Russians spent 78.1 billion rubles (+34%) on European—made cars in October, while Japanese cars spent 44 billion rubles (+29.9%). At the same time, the cost of buying cars of other brands increased significantly more: American — by 44.6% (up to 7.2 billion rubles), Russian — by 51.6% (up to 98 billion rubles), Korean — by 60.3% (up to 20 billion rubles).
The day before, the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation reported that financing of preferential car loans and leasing programs in 2026-2028 is planned in the amount of 164 billion rubles. At the same time, it was previously planned to allocate 115 billion rubles for these purposes over the next three years.
It also became known on November 25 that, according to a survey, 28% of Russians surveyed plan to buy a car on credit at the end of 2025 or in the first half of next year. Over the past six months (compared to the survey conducted in the spring), the number of such respondents has increased by 4 percentage points.
