A Galapagos tortoise named Gram, who survived 20 US presidents and two world wars, has died at the San Diego Zoo. This was reported on November 25 by The Guardian newspaper.

"After more than a century of consuming his favorite food — romaine lettuce and cactus fruits — Gram's beloved Galapagos turtle, the oldest inhabitant of the San Diego Zoo, has died," the publication notes.

According to the newspaper, the 141-year-old turtle, which zoo staff called the "queen of the zoo," was euthanized on November 20 due to progressive age-related bone diseases. Gram arrived in San Diego from the Bronx Zoo in 1928 or 1931 and became one of the first Galapagos turtles in the institution's collection. During her life, she witnessed fundamental changes in the world, having survived two world wars and 20 US presidents — from Grover Cleveland to the current head of the White House, Donald Trump.

On October 29, a thirteen-year-old male gray wolf named Tarzan died in the Moscow Zoo after a long illness. The wolf was born in the spring of 2012 in the zoo of Veliky Ustyug and a year later was transported to Moscow, where he was settled with the female Rada. After a period of adaptation, the animals became a couple and went out for walks together.
