Three-time Olympic champion in synchronized swimming Svetlana Kolesnichenko has decided to retire. This was announced on November 26 by the Russian Federation of Water Sports.

"Kolesnichenko has decided to end her sports career," TASS quoted the organization as saying.

The athlete admitted that she realized that she was nearing the end of her career at the BRICS Games in 2024. However, before the final decision, Kolesnichenko took a break to rest, take care of her health and consider the initiative, adds Sport-Express.

Kolesnichenko is an Honored Master of Sports of Russia, a three-time Olympic champion, as well as a 16-time world champion and 11-time European champion.

Last June, Kolesnichenko won the first gold medal for the Russian national team at the BRICS Games. Following the performance, the athlete scored 313.69 points. The second place was taken by the synchronized swimmer from Belarus Vasilina Khondoshko (296.4750), the third was Diana Onkes (229.9334) from Uzbekistan.
