On Wednesday, November 26, Soviet and Russian actor Vsevolod Shilovsky passed away at the age of 87. He lived in theater and cinema, devoting his entire life to acting and teaching. Since childhood, Shilovsky knew who he wanted to become and actively pursued his goal. Shilovsky wrote about this in the book of memoirs "Two Lives". The highlights from the biography of the People's Artist of the RSFSR are in the material of Izvestia.

Vsevolod Shilovsky died: what is known about the actor

People's Artist of the Russian Federation, theater and film actor, director Vsevolod Shilovsky died at the age of 88, the press service of his studio theater reported on November 26.

The cause of the tragedy has not yet been officially disclosed. It is known that the actor did not like to discuss health problems in public and preferred to avoid excessive attention.

The time and place of the actor's farewell, as well as the date of the funeral, will be announced later.

Escaped death several times

Vsevolod Shilovsky was born on June 3, 1938 in Moscow. Since childhood, he dreamed of becoming an artist, so even at school he began studying in the circle of the House of Pioneers. His first teacher was actor Nikolai Bazhenov, who taught Shilovsky how to work with the material.

In 1961, Vsevolod Shilovsky graduated from the Moscow Art Theater Studio School and was invited to join the troupe, where he worked until 1987. He became widely known for his roles in films and TV series "Valentina", "The Voice", "Torpedo Bombers", "Military field Novel", "Interdevochka", "Barkhanov and his Bodyguard", "The Life of Klim Samgin", "Prisoner of If Castle", "Kamenskaya", "Truckers", "The Turkish March." Shilovsky also worked as a director on the films "A Million in a Marriage basket", "Wandering Stars", "Code of Dishonor" and "Verdict". In total, he has more than 150 roles in films and TV series.

The actor, one might say, was born in a shirt. He was lucky enough to escape death several times, as he himself has repeatedly said in interviews. This happened for the first time during the Great Patriotic War. Young Shilovsky and his mother sailed on a barge to Kazan for evacuation, but saw an open hatch and fell into it. A curious boy was saved by a sailor who miraculously found himself in the hold and managed to catch him.

He was lucky to escape death for the second time much later: in the 1990s, the artist's car was urgently detained, confusing it with the car of wanted bandits.

The acting and directing life of Vsevolod Shilovsky

One of Shilovsky's first roles was Cherubino from Pierre Beaumarchais's The Marriage of Figaro, and then he played Kostylev in the play At the Bottom based on the play by Maxim Gorky. At the same time, Shilovsky began teaching at his alma mater, and also made his directorial debut by directing Jean Anouy's play Medea with students.

Subsequently, Shilovsky continued to direct performances for the Moscow Art Theater, among his works: "Simplicity is Enough for any wise man," "Mutiny," "The Volokolamsk Highway," "Quietly Rehearsing Tolstoy," and others.

The actor made his film debut in 1965 in a cameo role in the family drama "Our House". In 1977, Vsevolod Shilovsky appeared in the cult detective series "The investigation is conducted by Experts." Later, the actor starred in more than 100 films and TV series, including "Kamenskaya", "March of the Turkish", "Interdevochka", "The Chosen One of Fate" and many others.

The audience loved him the most for his performance in the films "The beloved woman of mechanic Gavrilov", "In love of his own free will" and "A military field novel". The actor had almost no roles of the same type. He played Napoleon, a cunning and charming gang leader, and a negative extortionist father.

Shilovsky made his directorial debut in 1972, directing the first Soviet TV series, Day by Day. Vsevolod Shilovsky's paintings have always been a success with the audience, and the director's film "The Code of Dishonor" became particularly popular in the early 1990s.

In 1995, he became a professor at the All-Russian State University of Cinematography named after S.A. Gerasimov (VGIK).

Work in the new millennium

In the new millennium, after a break, Vsevolod Shilovsky returned to directing and shot several works, including the six—part film "People and Shadows", where he played the main role of a man stealing billions of dollars from the state.

One of the main events of the last years of the national artist's life was the opening of the Vsevolod Shilovsky Studio Theater in the very center of Moscow, at the Teatralnaya metro station, on Petrovka.

Almost until the last days of his life, Vsevolod Shilovsky continued to work. He even said earlier: "I can't live without my theater anymore. Take it away tomorrow, and I'll be gone tomorrow."

Achievements and awards of Vsevolod Shilovsky

In 1986, Vsevolod Shilovsky received the title of People's Artist of the RSFSR, in 1997 he was awarded the Order of Friendship, and in 2015 - the Medal of Honor. In 2006 and 2021, he received the Order of Merit for the Fatherland, IV and III degrees, respectively. In 2018, he was awarded a certificate of honor from the President of the Russian Federation.

For the role of Priest Yeremey in the film "Once upon a Time there was a Woman," Vsevolod Shilovsky was awarded the Anatoly Papanov Special Prize at the Golden Phoenix All-Russian Film Festival of Actors and Directors.

He is the author of the autobiographical book "Two Lives". The book became a fascinating journey through the biography of the master, who emotionally and sincerely spoke about the creative and everyday — about his student days, the famous "old men of the Moscow Art Museum", about those he loved and worked with, about what happened on stage and in the cinema — in the limelight and behind the scenes.

Many pages of the book are devoted to the Moscow Art Theater, the secrets of its backstage in the 1940s and 1980s, prominent figures and traditions.

Since 2008, he has been the president of the Golden Phoenix All—Russian Film Festival of Actors and Directors.
