The FSB has stopped the operation of a mining farm in the Chelyabinsk region
The Office of the Federal Security Service (UFSB) has stopped a particularly large-scale fraudulent crime related to the operation of an illegal mining farm. This was reported on November 26 in the regional department.
"The FSB of Russia in the Chelyabinsk region <...> conducted an operation to curb the illegal activities of four persons involved in the organization of the functioning of a computer system designed for the extraction of cryptocurrencies (mining)," the agency said in a statement.
According to investigators, for six months, starting in 2024, the suspects provided the electricity supplier with fictitious accounting documents that contain data on underestimated volumes and capacities of electricity consumed by the power plant. It is noted that the attackers caused damage to energy supply organizations in the amount of more than 121 million rubles.
Investigators of the regional FSB opened a criminal case against the suspects under Part 4 of Article 159 of the Criminal Code of Russia ("Fraud committed by an organized group on an especially large scale"). Criminals face imprisonment for up to 10 years with a fine of up to 1 million rubles.
Earlier, on October 25, employees of the Investigative Committee (IC) and the FSB of the Russian Federation detained Alexander Gorokhov, Deputy General Director of Expoforum International, for legalizing illegally earned funds. It was noted that Gorokhov signed fictitious contracts for advertising and information services in the amount of 32 million rubles last year, realizing that these funds were obtained criminally as a result of fraud in the execution of an agreement with a government agency in the amount of 2 billion rubles. Three other people also participated in this, who also came under investigation and were charged.
