Reuters reported Taiwan's intention to increase military spending
Taiwan plans to allocate an additional defense budget of $40 billion to strengthen its defense and purchase weapons from the United States. This was reported by the Reuters news agency on November 26.
"This landmark package will not only finance significant new arms purchases from the United States, but will also significantly strengthen Taiwan's asymmetric capabilities," Taiwan's President Lai Qingde was quoted as saying by the agency.
He stressed that the additional funding is aimed at creating conditions for more informed decision-making in the region.
Earlier, on November 19, it was reported that statements by Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi about his readiness to deploy self-defense forces in the event of China's attempt to establish control over Taiwan caused a crisis in international relations, and the reaction of the United States and Russia was a slap in the face for the politician. China's response was immediate: a Chinese Navy electronic reconnaissance ship was detected about 70 km from an important Japanese defense point, Kagoshima. The publication interprets this event as a warning to Tokyo, signaling China's determination to defend its interests in the region.
