The expert reported a reduction in the vocabulary of Russians due to remote work.
Switching to remote work has significantly changed the speech of adults: vocabulary is shrinking, phrases are becoming simpler, and the formulation of thoughts is less accurate. This was announced on November 26 by Elena Melnikova, a speech pathologist and co-founder of the Multicolored Chickens network of speech therapy centers, in an interview "Газете.Ru ".
"When live communication decreases, the practice of speech decreases. For those who had prerequisites for diction violations, this can manifest itself faster," Melnikova said.
According to the expert, online communication partially replaces speech with visual elements — emojis and stickers. This saves time, but reduces the need to formulate thoughts in words, especially in writing: people are more likely to "add meaning" to pictures, shorten phrases and skip nuances.
"There is no need to fight this, it is only important not to lose the skill of live communication," the doctor emphasized.
She added that speech adapts to the environment in which a person works, and this in itself does not create critical problems.
The expert recommends simple daily practices to maintain speech and attention: reading books, live conversations with colleagues and friends, disabling notifications in messengers and setting aside periods of full concentration.
In addition, it is useful to discuss important issues in a voice and monitor the tempo, pauses and structure of statements in order to maintain clarity and expressiveness of speech even with a completely remote work format.
Earlier, on October 21, Medical Xpress magazine reported that an increase in the time children spend on social media from the age of 9 to 13 is associated with a deterioration in cognitive skills, including memory, vocabulary, and reading skills. A JAMA study involving 6,554 teenagers found that the children with the most time on social media showed the worst results.
