Fans of Spartak and Lokomotiv football clubs decided to refrain from mutual insults at the Russian Cup match on November 26 due to the death of Nikita Simonyan, Olympic champion in the USSR national football team. This was announced on November 25 in a fan statement on the Telegram channel.

"Due to the sudden death of the legend of not only Spartak, but also of the entire national football — Nikita Pavlovich Simonyan, the assets of Spartak and Lokomotiv fans decided to abandon offensive charges against each other at tomorrow's cup match," the publication says.

It is noted that there will also be no banner display on the Spartak rostrum. Instead, it is planned to leave only a mourning ribbon on the second tier. The activists also asked the other fans to spend the first 5 minutes of the upcoming match in silence in memory of Simonyan.

Simonyan died on November 23 at the age of 99. It was noted that the man felt unwell on November 20, after which he was hospitalized.

Russian President Vladimir Putin called Simonyan a football legend and an idol for fans. He also expressed his condolences to the relatives and the family of the football player.

A civil memorial service for Simonyan will be held at Moscow's Spartak stadium, Lukoil Arena, on November 27.
