Nationalist Evgenia Khasis, convicted in the case of the murder of lawyer Stanislav Markelov and journalist Anastasia Baburova, will leave the colony in a few days. This is stated in the judicial act, which was reviewed by Izvestia on November 25.

The decision of the Zubovo-Polyansky District Court of Mordovia clarifies that Khasis' term of service expires on November 29. It is also stated that the court established administrative supervision for a period of eight years in relation to the defendant, which will be calculated from the date of registration with the internal affairs body at the place of residence.

Stanislav Markelov, a lawyer at the Inter-Republican Bar Association of Moscow, and Anastasia Baburova, a freelance correspondent for Novaya Gazeta (recognized as an undesirable organization in the Russian Federation), were killed on January 19, 2009. On Prechistenka Street near the Cathedral of Christ the Savior, 34-year-old Markelov, who was returning from a press conference, was shot in the head, and 25-year-old Baburova, who was walking with him, was wounded and died in hospital.

On September 13, the media announced the release of Evgenia Khasis after 16 years in prison, but later it turned out that Khasis was still in prison. On May 6, 2011, she was sentenced to 18 years in a penal colony, and Nikita Tikhonov, an accomplice of the defendant, was sentenced to life imprisonment. In 2022, the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation reduced the girl's sentence from 18 to 17 years. On November 6, 2009, Tikhonov testified and pleaded guilty to the crime.
