The activists called on Rosstandart to check the possibility of using Ai-92 gasoline with a 10% ethyl alcohol content in cars manufactured and sold in the Russian Federation. The National Automobile Union (NAS) addressed a letter to the head of the Federal Service for Technical Regulation and Standardization, Izvestia has a copy of the document.

In November, the State Duma adopted amendments in the third reading canceling the payment of excise duty on denatured ethyl alcohol in the production of Ai-92 gasoline. Now it will be possible to add up to 10% ethanol to the fuel. We have noticed that the current GOST standards and other regulatory documents explicitly set a limit of 5% on the ethanol content, and it was this fuel that was used when testing cars during certification: assessing reliability, power and emissions. As indicated in the letter, fuel containing ethyl alcohol is widely used in a number of countries, and its volume fraction can reach up to 85%. Ethanol allows you to increase the octane number, improves power characteristics.

At the same time, if most foreign cars will run on fuel with an ethanol content of more than 10% without problems, then the operating instructions for the most popular Russian cars clearly contain references to the mentioned GOSTs, the public figures pointed out. They cited the example of the Lada Vesta, UAZ Patriot and GAZ Sobol operating manuals. In OUR opinion, there may be situations when, when applying under warranty, the manufacturer will refuse to repair the car owner, since the operating instructions explicitly prohibit the use of fuel containing 10% ethyl alcohol.

"Now manufacturers will need to assess whether their machines can safely and efficiently work with E10 fuel. We are asking Rosstandart to organize such an assessment and provide recommendations on which cars such gasoline should not be used in. In addition, it is important to understand whether there is a need to re-certify the machines.: With fuel containing 10% alcohol, all the main engine performance indicators and emissions will be different," Anton Shaparin, NAS Vice president, told Izvestia.

The activists also called on Rosstandart to determine what changes automakers should make to the design of vehicles in order for such fuel to be used. And to clarify whether manufacturers and suppliers of vehicles have the opportunity to make changes to user manuals, operating instructions, and other documents in connection with the start of production of new fuel.

Earlier, on November 17, an auto expert said that even in severe frosts, you should not fill your car with gasoline with a lower octane rating — below what the manufacturer recommends. Gasoline with an octane rating of 92 has a higher evaporation rate because it consists of lighter fractions of hydrocarbons. These fractions turn into steam faster and form a combustible mixture with air even in frosts, which theoretically helps when starting the engine "cold". However, this does not make the Ai-92 a universal solution, the expert pointed out.

All important news is on the Izvestia channel in the MAX messenger.
