The forests of the Murmansk region will be protected from illegal logging from December 1 to December 31, 2025. The decree was signed by the head of the region Andrey Chibis, according to the Bi-port news agency.

The document says that the municipal authorities are recommended to develop a program for the protection of coniferous trees, including forest control. Residents will be informed about the work of special sites for the sale of firs and pines.

Measures to protect the forest fund from illegal logging are organized by the regional Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, and on the lands of specially protected natural territories by the Baltic–Arctic Interregional Directorate of Rosprirodnadzor.

The Murmansk Ministry of Education will also commission thematic classes, drawing contests and lectures on forest conservation in schools and kindergartens.

Earlier it was reported that in the Murmansk region last 2024, measures were taken to restore forests on an area of 908 hectares. 4.9 million rubles were spent on the work.
