Finland reported on the construction of a fence one meter from the border with Russia
The Finnish authorities are erecting barriers one meter from the border with Russia. This was reported on November 24 by the Yle television and radio company, citing a representative of the country's border guard service.
"The last sections of the barrier fence being erected on the eastern border of Finland will be completed by next summer," the article says.
It is noted that surveillance cameras are installed on the barriers every 20 meters to ensure constant monitoring of the border.
Yle reported on November 20 that the Finnish government was thinking about restoring drained marshes on the border with Russia for security purposes. However, Juho Hyanninen from the Metsä-Lappi Forestry Association expressed doubt about the military benefits of the idea. According to him, swamps can freeze in winter and it is possible to easily drive through, the winter period lasts about six months in this region.
