- The Russian Foreign Ministry assessed the results of the elections of the President of Republika Srpska
The election of the President of Republika Srpska (RS, an entity within Bosnia and Herzegovina) demonstrated that its citizens did not allow their will to be distorted and expressed support for the line of ex-President Milorad Dodik. This was announced on November 25 by the Russian Foreign Ministry.
"The voting in the early presidential elections of Republika Srpska on November 23 took place in a peaceful and democratic atmosphere. <...> its citizens did not allow their will to be distorted and once again expressed their firm support for the patriotic line pursued by Milorad Dodik's team," the ministry said in a statement on its website.
The document notes that Russia shares the commitment of the elected President of the Republic, Sinisha Karan, to further promote strategic partnership relations.
On November 24, the ruling Republika Srpska party, the Union of Independent Social Democrats (SNSD), announced the victory of its candidate Sinisha Karan in the early presidential elections. After counting the votes from 95.1% of polling stations, Karan won more than 208 thousand votes, which is 8.5 thousand more than the candidate from the opposition Serbian Democratic Party (SDS) Branko Blanus.
On October 28, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and Dodik reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening partnership relations between the two countries. In addition, during the meeting, a thorough exchange of views was held on the situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina, especially in the context of the internal political crisis.
