The New Year's interior in 2026 is formed around natural materials, a warm palette and the image of a fiery horse, a symbol of energy and freedom. On November 26, Natalia Vedenova, art director of the Dyatkovo Design furniture brand, explained to Izvestia what techniques would help create an expressive and harmonious festive atmosphere in the living room.

"The symbol of the year is a fiery horse. It is the personification of vibrant energy, freedom and vibrant movement. Ecominimalism is on trend. Textured wool, linen, wood, straw, ceramics, frosted glass create the same tactile depth that makes the interior vibrant and soulful. The color palette of the year is warming shades: deep burgundy, cozy terracotta, rich green, noble copper and muted gold. The horse "encourages" expressiveness without too much glitter and artificiality," the expert explained.

According to her, the Christmas tree is the central element of the room. The size and shape must match the space. If there is not enough space in the room, Vedenova suggests replacing a large spruce with miniature compositions of coniferous branches in a vase decorated with beads and ribbons.

In addition, accent elements help to create the atmosphere of a winter holiday. Fir garlands along the cornice and doorway set the rhythm and vertical, wreaths and compositions of branches and candles shape the mood, and family photos in festive frames add personality to the space. The specialist noted that the decoration of the festive table plays an important role: natural textiles, fir tree compositions, decor of oranges and spices create a feeling of warmth.

"Lighting is the soul of a festive interior. Ditch overhead lighting in favor of soft, layered scenarios. Use adaptive systems: with one touch on your smartphone, you can adjust the lighting to suit any mood — from a subdued romantic glow to a soft background for evening meetings with friends. The visual component of the fixtures is also undergoing changes. Typical chandeliers are giving way to sculptural forms — pendants made of wood, ceramics or textiles, which themselves are art objects," Vedenova emphasized.

A space for relaxation is also of particular importance. The expert recommended organizing a private corner by the window or on the sofa, complementing it with a blanket, textiles and soft light. The smooth shapes of the furniture and warm materials enhance the feeling of comfort. You can divide the zones using floor lamps with textile lampshades, sconces and garlands with a soft shimmer.

The fragrance becomes the final accent of the festive interior. Compositions with notes of pine needles, mandarin and spices form a whole mood and complement the atmosphere of a winter holiday, Vedenova concluded.

Arina Samoilova, an expert on home economics at the X5 Club loyalty program, told Izvestia on November 12 how to calculate drinks for the New Year's table using the formula. According to her, the preparation should begin with making an accurate guest list, taking into account the possible visit of children. The next key step is to identify the types of drinks, from alcoholic to hot, and it is important to remember that one person can consume drinks from different categories.
