Vacations are a pause necessary to restore emotional and cognitive resources. During the school year, children are constantly in the mode of tasks, grades, interaction with a large number of people and high switching speed. Their nervous system is working in high tonic, so a period of rest is very important. Victoria Boeva, the founder and co-owner of the Discovery network of bilingual kindergartens and schools, told Izvestia on November 26 how to prepare a child to return to work.

"It's not worth overloading the child with lessons during this period: the brain needs a full rest. However, it is still necessary to maintain the ability to perceive and assimilate information. The best way is to read at least a few pages of any literature every day. Let it be an adventure book, comics or short stories — the main thing is that reading should be regular," she said.

The specialist emphasized that such light intellectual activity develops attention, memory and vocabulary, without turning into a boring duty. Small jigsaw puzzles, coloring books by numbers, or non—boring brain puzzles are also useful to "wake up" thinking without pressure.

In addition, Boeva drew attention to the emotional mood. If a child does not communicate with classmates for a long time, he may have anxiety before returning to the team: what has changed, how he will be greeted, whether the relationship has broken down. Small meetings with friends during the holidays — a walk, going to the cinema or any other joint activity — help reduce anxiety and create a positive background. This is how children return to school, not into the unknown, but into a familiar and supportive environment.

"Parents also need to remember about discipline. The child's psyche is sensitive to changes in rhythm, and if the regime is allowed to completely "crumble", returning to the school or kindergarten system of requirements will become a great stress. Children who have completely lost their sleep patterns over the holidays are more likely to experience morning tantrums, resistance, inability to concentrate, decreased motivation, and memory impairment. To avoid this, it is important to maintain at least the basic framework of a habitual day: you can wake up a little later, but it is advisable to go to bed at about the same time," the expert emphasized.

There are other simple ways to make the transition from rest to study gentle and calm. For example, you can put your workplace in order together, update stationery, choose new notebooks — such little things create a feeling of a pleasant new beginning. It is also important what the atmosphere of the house is like: calm morning rituals, pre-discussed plans for the first school week, a little more support and attention help the child feel more confident. The main thing is not to require instant engagement, but to create conditions in which returning to the usual rhythm will be natural and comfortable, the specialist concluded.

On November 19, child psychologist Ekaterina Ilyicheva, in an interview with Izvestia, explained how to behave correctly to parents when a child has no motivation to study. The specialist recommends giving the minor the right to make mistakes and gradually transferring responsibility for collecting the portfolio and other independent actions to him.
