Sechin noted Russia's leadership in the nuclear fuel cycle chain

Russia is the only country in the world with expertise in the entire technological chain of the nuclear fuel cycle, from uranium mining to nuclear fuel utilization. This was stated by Igor Sechin, Executive Secretary of the Presidential Commission for the Development Strategy of the Fuel and Energy Complex, Chief Executive Officer of Rosneft, at the opening of the VII Russian-Chinese Energy Business Forum in Beijing.

Sechin stressed that China relies on the latest technological achievements of the leading nuclear powers, including Russia, to develop its nuclear industry. In particular, four power units of the Tianwan NPP have been built with the participation of the Russian Federation, and in the next few years it is planned to complete the construction of four more nuclear units of the Tianwan and Xudapu NPP. In addition, a partnership is developing in the supply of raw materials and in the production of fuel cells using Russian technologies.

"Russia is also assisting China in the implementation of the fast neutron reactor construction project, which ensures deeper fuel burnout and higher efficiency. Let me remind you that our country is the only owner of this technology," Sechin said.

The head of Rosneft also stressed the benefits of the economics of joint projects. Thus, the cost of the most modern Russian VVER-1200 reactor is two times lower than that of the American AP 1000.
