Louis, the son of former French President Nicolas Sarkozy, proposed organizing a lottery for legal migrants, according to which 10% of them will have to serve in the army. He stated this on November 25 on the air of the RMC radio station.

"Why not make a lottery — say, 10% — where all new legal migrants would be required to serve in the army? Do you want to become French? Very good. It has a price," Louis Sarkozy said.

He noted that the migration problem is very serious for France, adding that there are other crisis areas, such as the lack of unity among the population and the difficulty of assimilation through the army.

In his opinion, military service can be an effective solution to the problem of petty crime. His initiative suggests that every young man who commits a minor offense should be sent to the army.

Earlier, on November 12, German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier, amid discussions in Germany about a new law on military service, said that everyone should serve in the army. The President recalled that in 1995, the country pledged to provide the alliance with up to 500,000 soldiers who had to be ready for combat operations within three years, which was not possible due to voluntary military service.

Steinmeier has already advocated the return of universal military service in the country. On July 13, he stated that he was in favor of this because of the changing security situation in Europe. He clarified that it is necessary to increase the attractiveness of the army for citizens and expressed doubt that it is possible to increase the number of armed forces in the country on a voluntary basis.
