Activists of the Extinction Rebellion environmental movement, led by Swedish environmental activist Greta Thunberg, were fined €150 and banned from entering Venice for 48 hours after the protest. This was reported on November 24 by The Telegraph newspaper.

"Eco-activist [Greta Thunberg] received a fine and a 48—hour ban from entering the city after the protest<...>. A group of 35 other activists received the same fine and ban," the publication says.

According to the newspaper, similar actions were held in 10 Italian cities.

"The dye was poured into fountains in Genoa and Padua, as well as in the Po River in Turin, the Reno River in Bologna and the Tara River in Taranto," The Telegraph added.

On November 23, Extinction Rebellion eco-activists poured an environmentally friendly coloring agent into the Grand Canal, as a result of which the water turned a bright green color. That's how they tried to draw attention to environmental issues.

The governor of the Veneto region, Luca Zaia, said that such actions do not contribute to the protection of the environment, but on the contrary, harm it and damage the city, forcing additional water purification work.
