Natalia Khokhlova, a doctor at the Lyubertsy Regional Hospital Health Center, has dispelled the main myth about vapes and electronic cigarettes.

In an interview with Radio 1 on Monday, November 24, she noted that the increase in smoking among young people today is primarily associated with electronic cigarettes and vapes, and not with classic cigarettes. According to her, teenagers are especially vulnerable because they consider such devices fashionable and safe.

Khokhlova emphasized that it is young men and women who most often use vapes, mistakenly thinking that they cause less harm. She explained that the amount of carcinogens in e-cigarettes is comparable to conventional ones.

The doctor added that addiction is spreading more and more among teenagers, but it is impossible to help them at the Health Center — they only accept patients over the age of 18, which exacerbates the problem for families. For adults, diagnosis is available using a smokylizer, which records the level of carbon monoxide after both cigarettes and vapes. Khokhlova noted that the accuracy of such measurements is of great importance.

On the same day, Khokhlova spoke about the importance of an individual approach to quitting smoking. According to her, it is necessary to adjust all risk factors, this is a very deep preventive work with doctors, writes RT.

On November 20, pulmonologist Olga Tsagaraeva, in an interview with RIAMO, warned that many consider modern electronic smoking systems to be safer than tobacco, as they are not only not a safe alternative to cigarettes, but can also cause severe, sometimes fatal lung diseases. Research shows that more than 60% of consumers are unaware that their devices contain nicotine. And when smoking a hookah, the smoke passes through the water, but it does not purify it of toxins. The doctor also called prevention the best way to combat nicotine addiction. 360.ru .

On November 9, a study by the SuperJob service showed that 69% of Russians are in favor of a complete ban on the sale of vapes in the country. The main argument of the supporters of the ban is harm to health, the idea of vapes as "synthetic chemicals," according to NSN.
