Zakharova ironically commented on von der Leyen's terms of peace in Ukraine.
Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova on November 24 in her Telegram channel commented on the conditions for a peaceful settlement of the conflict in Ukraine, which were announced by the head of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen after a meeting with the leaders of the European Union (EU) countries.
One of the conditions is the prohibition of changing Ukraine's borders by "force." Zakharova recalled the situation with Kosovo, where European countries have changed the borders of Serbia.
"It was the West that proclaimed and used force to unilaterally redraw Serbia's borders against the will of the Serbian people," the Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman said.
Also, according to von der Leyen, Ukraine has no right to limit its armed forces for the security of both the country and Europe. According to Zakharova, this is similar to the non-recognition of Ukraine's sovereignty.
The official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry cites the example of the German treaty on the reduction of the army, which did not affect the weakening of European security.
The "2 + 4" Treaty of 1990 regulated the development of the Bundeswehr, and the armed forces of the Federal Republic of Germany were to be reduced from 500,000 to 370,000 people in four years. Germany confirmed its earlier refusal to manufacture, possess and dispose of weapons of mass destruction," Zakharova explained.
According to the head of the EC, the EU member states play a central role in ensuring peace in Ukraine, which should be reflected later. Zakharova calls such activities in conflict resolution "hallucinations."
Zakharova also called the "European fate of Ukraine" ridiculous, arguing this with a statement by the country's ex-president Viktor Yanukovych.
"We all remember very well how the legitimately elected President of Ukraine, Viktor Yanukovych, said that the country was suspending the agreement on European integration because "the Ukrainian economy and legislation were not ready for association with the European Union." At the same moment, the West launched another Maidan, which led to the unconstitutional coup d'etat of 2014," the representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry stressed.
