Auroras reaching the latitude of Moscow have formed in the eastern hemisphere and may spread to the European part of Russia in the next few hours. This was announced on November 24 by the press service of the Laboratory of Solar Astronomy at the Institute of Space Research (IKI) of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

"In the eastern hemisphere of the Earth, there is currently a rapid growth of the aurora zone, the lower boundary of which has descended in the last half hour to latitudes of about 55 degrees (Moscow, Kazan, Nizhny Novgorod)," the laboratory's Telegram channel says.

It is noted that in eastern Siberia there is a center of intensity of the auroral oval, which in a few hours will move to the central European parts of the country. However, the laboratory also clarified that there is currently no guarantee that the brightness of the phenomenon will remain up to this point.

On November 19, Lisa Upton, a heliophysicist from the Institute of Southwestern Studies, noted that a powerful geomagnetic storm last week brought rare and bright auroras, which were observed even in Florida and Mexico.

All important news is on the Izvestia channel in the MAX messenger.
