The corruption scandal in Ukraine involving Vladimir Zelensky's inner circle should be considered as the case of the Ukrainian leader himself. This opinion was expressed by political analyst Ivan Mezyuho in an interview with Izvestia on November 24.

According to the expert, the facts of corruption made public by the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office (SAPO) were known long before their official publication on November 10.

Mezyuho described these structures as American proxies and suggested that information about corruption schemes in the highest echelons of the Ukrainian government had been made public on direct instructions from Washington. The political scientist attributed this to the dissatisfaction of the administration of US President Donald Trump with Zelensky's position on the continuation of the conflict in Ukraine and his focus on the traditional allies of the United States in the European Union and the United Kingdom.

"Trump, despite all his dislike of Zelensky, who obviously does not need additional evidence, is still ready to work with the leader of the Kiev clique, as long as he carries out all those instructions and orders that would come from the head of the American state," Mezyuho believes.

The expert believes that the current scandal is intended to make the Ukrainian leader more accommodating in his relations with the American administration. The expert also linked the situation to the political ambitions of the American president, noting that Zelensky's defiance could hinder Trump's plans to be nominated for the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize.

"Today Zelensky is showing insubordination in his relations with Trump, and therefore Trump cannot hope that the comedian in politics will follow the path of fulfilling the American president's peace plan. And, accordingly, Donald Trump cannot count on the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize, and he would like to have an application for the Nobel Peace Prize for next year submitted by the end of this year," the political scientist said.

He did not rule out that the American curators have more serious compromising material directly on Vladimir Zelensky, which could be made public at any time.

According to Mezyuho, corruption permeates all spheres of Ukrainian society and government departments, including the defense complex, energy and natural resource extraction. The expert paid special attention to the social sphere, where, according to him, significant budget funds are being dissolved in the offices of officials without proper public investigation.

On November 10, NABU established a money laundering scheme in the energy sector of the state, through which about $100 million passed. Later, on November 11, it was reported that seven people were charged in Ukraine in the course of a corruption case in the energy sector, including businessman Timur Mindich (he is called the head of the criminal scheme). The members of the group received illegal benefits from the contracts of Energoatom. In addition, they legalized the funds through a back office in Kiev.
