The Swiss Federal Court has dismissed the appeal of CSKA Moscow in a dispute over payments for ex-Croat football player Nikola Vlasic. This was reported on November 24 by RIA Novosti.

Earlier, the International Football Federation (FIFA) ordered the English West Ham United to transfer €8.55 million and 5% per annum to CSKA for the second tranche as part of the player's transfer. The London club appealed the decision to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), and it ruled that West Ham United should fulfill its obligations only after receiving permission from the British authorities or changing the sanctions regime that prohibits such payments. Disagreeing, CSKA appealed to the Swiss Federal Court.

The judge rejected the complaint of the Russian side, collecting from the plaintiff legal costs in the amount of 31 thousand Swiss francs and obliging to pay compensation to the defendant 36 thousand francs for the expenses incurred.

In November, CSKA also reported that FIFA had demanded that West Ham pay the full amount of the third tranche for Vlasic and impose a penalty of 5% per annum from August 1, 2023.

Earlier, on October 7, CNN Portugal reported that Rui Costa, president of the board of the Benfica football club, would appear in court over a €76,000 money transfer from the Russian club Lokomotiv to the Lisbon club's account to repay the debt for the transfer of a football player to the Russian club. It was noted that the charges relate to the transfer of Argentine defender Herman Conti to a Russian club in 2023. Thus, a monetary transaction to pay off a debt for an athlete violated European legislation regarding anti-Russian sanctions. According to Portuguese law, the president of a football club can be prosecuted and imprisoned for a period of one to five years.
