The expert named objects in the house that pose a danger to children.
A home is a space where a child grows up, learns about the world and learns independence. But a familiar environment can also become a source of unexpected risks. Elena Kosheleva, Director of Sberbank Insurance projects, told Izvestia on November 25 about how to make housing safe and resistant to children's experiments.
She noted that proper flooring is of great importance. It should be non-slip, stable and easy to maintain. Mats with silicone backing or soft modular coverings are well suited. To prevent the child from stumbling, the corners of large carpets can be fixed with double-sided tape. At the same time, special attention should be paid to small objects — coins, batteries, magnets.
"If the battery gets into the esophagus, it can seriously damage the internal tissues. Medicines, household chemicals, scissors and tools should be stored in inaccessible places — on top shelves or in lockable drawers," the expert explained.
Another risk area is furniture. The specialist recommends installing locks on the doors to avoid injury to fingers, and fixing large cabinets to the wall, as children often try to climb the shelves. It is better to protect sharp corners with soft pads. In a children's room, it is preferable to choose furniture with smooth shapes.
In addition, Kosheleva added, electrical appliances are also dangerous. According to her, it is better to replace the sockets with child-proof models, and hide or secure the wires. Heating devices should be out of the reach of the child and must be switched off immediately after use.
"Windows remain one of the most dangerous areas in an apartment for young children. Mosquito nets do not protect against falling, so it is safer to install handles with locks or special locks that restrict the opening of the sash. It is better to place furniture away from windows so that it does not turn into a "staircase". And, most importantly, never leave a child alone in a room with open or potentially accessible windows," the expert said.
Curtains with cords, as well as long drapes, can also be dangerous: children pull them towards themselves, which can lead to the cornice falling. The optimal solution would be short roller blinds or Roman blinds without hanging elements. In the kitchen, the risks are highest: sharp objects, spices, vinegar, and a hot stove. For protection, it is worth installing a screen on the stove and using locks for the handles of the gas panel.
The expert recommended choosing sturdy furniture without glass parts, using washable wallpaper and removable covers, and installing water stops to prevent leaks. Even with the strictest measures, it is impossible to provide for all children's ideas — sometimes a few seconds are enough. Insurance plays an important role in such situations. The policy will help to compensate for damage from both childhood injuries and property damage.
Earlier, on November 1, Science Daily magazine reported on the negative impact of excessive time on the phone on children's health. It was clarified that prolonged time spent using gadgets can increase the risk of cardiovascular and metabolic diseases.
