Ex-Spartak coach called Simonyan a legend of world football
Former Spartak coach Massimo Carrera called Nikita Simonyan, Olympic champion in football in 1956, ex-striker of Spartak football club and the USSR national team, a legend of world football.
"I offer my deepest condolences to his family. He was and will always remain a legend of Spartak and world football!" said Carrera in an interview with the newspaper Sport-Express.
Fabio Capello, an Italian coach and former coach of the Russian national team, also spoke about Simonyan's death. He noted that he will remember the ex-striker as a friend and a good person.
"I recently called him via video link and congratulated him on his 99th birthday. <...> And today I learn about his death. <...> I am very sad. Condolences to Simonyan's family and friends," he said.
Alexander Mirzoyan, President of the Russian Football Veterans Union, announced on November 23 that Simonyan had died. According to him, the man felt unwell on Thursday, November 20, after which he was hospitalized.
