UFC champion Islam Makhachev arrives in the Republic of Dagestan
The champion of the Absolute Fighting Champion (UFC), Russian fighter Islam Makhachev, arrived in the Republic of Dagestan after defeating Australian Jack Della Maddalena. Izvestia publishes relevant footage on November 23.
"Yes, we did a very good job with the team: not just to gain weight — to overeat and just weigh more, but to gain the right muscle mass (gain. For the other two months, I worked with sparring partners and felt comfortable," he told Izvestia correspondent Murad Magomedov.
Continuing his story about the preparation for the fights, Makhachev added that working with bigger fighters, he did not feel weaker. So, at the first clinch (a technique that involves bringing one fighter closer to another in order to fix his hands and limit movement), the champion felt that he had more strength than his opponent.
The fighter said that his division, which in his opinion hosts the most competitive fights, is the most active and youngest. He also clarified that he called his relatives: his mother, who does not watch the fights, and his father, who, in turn, monitors the development of the fight with other relatives.
"I called home, <...> well, dad, and then I send my mom a photo that there is nothing on my face, that everything is fine. <...> I haven't been home for a long time, three months, I'll see my family, relatives," Magomedov shared.
Makhachev, who defeated the Australian, which earned him the UFC welterweight title, announced on November 16 his desire to fight at the tournament in the White House. Later that day, the fighter called Russia the strongest country.
