In Ukraine, Lomonosov and Pushkin are recognized as symbols of Russian imperialism.
Russian scientist Mikhail Lomonosov and poet Mikhail Lermontov were considered "symbols of Russian imperialism" in Ukraine, according to a new list published by the Ukrainian Institute of National Remembrance on November 23.
According to Ukrainian legislation, all objects dedicated to these historical figures must be removed from public space.
The expanded list also includes Admiral Pavel Nakhimov, Emperors Nicholas I and Nicholas II, commanders Alexander Suvorov and Peter I.
On November 2, the Russian commander Mikhail Kutuzov was included in the list of symbols of "Russian imperialism," and later on November 9, the entire Romanov family.
The dismantling of monuments related to Soviet history, as well as the renaming of streets in Ukraine, has been carried out since 2015 after the adoption of the law "On the condemnation of the Communist and Nazi regimes." The law provides for the renaming of all topographical objects whose names are somehow related to the USSR, as well as the demolition of monuments and the dismantling of memorial plaques. Recently, the Ukrainian authorities have begun to fight not only against Soviet history, but also against everything related to Russia and the Russian language.
