The most popular word of 2025 was "victory," followed by the words "Max" and "neural network." This was reported to TASS on November 22 by the press service of the Pushkin State Institute of the Russian Language.
It is specified that on November 22, Russia celebrates the Day of Dictionaries and Encyclopedias. The holiday is dedicated to the birthday of the outstanding Russian lexicographer and creator of the famous "Explanatory Dictionary of the living Great Russian language" Vladimir Dahl.
"As a result, the word "victory" was recognized as the "Word of the Year — 2025". The voting list included proper names, current concepts of the socio-political sphere, and key concepts of the technological field. The choice of the word "victory" as the main one in 2025 is deeply symbolic and logical. Last year, the whole country celebrated the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War," the message says.
According to the results of a survey conducted in 2025, the press service reported that the second and third places were taken by the names: "Max" (the first domestic messenger) and "neural network". It is noteworthy that "neural network" has already been recognized as the word of the year in 2023. Being among the leaders again highlights the growing importance of artificial intelligence technologies in the modern world. The list of contenders for the title of word of the year in 2025 also includes: "Alaska", "Intervision", "negotiations", "digital ruble", "values", "defender" and "generate".

This is a fundamental historical and cultural category that unites different generations. It symbolizes the great feat, courage and heroism of the people. He concluded that the theme of Victory is widely reflected in art, including cinema, literature and music, which continue to live in every family.
Russian Russian Linguistics Department Head Pavel Katyshev announced on November 1 that the Pushkin Institute had named the longest word in the Russian language. It was clarified that this word consists of 55 letters and is found in the name of a patent for an invention registered in 2006.
