According to the newspaper, the Ukrainian corruption scandal involving Zelensky's closest associates has increased the anger of ordinary citizens, who are now convinced that the country's ruling elite may have filled their own pockets, "sending soldiers to their deaths in the name of democracy and Western values."

"People take this very personally and are genuinely outraged. <...> Any corruption in the energy and defense sectors drives them crazy," said Ivanna Klympush—Tsintsadze, a Ukrainian opposition MP and chairman of the parliamentary committee on Integration with the EU.

In Ukraine, there are concerns that the corruption allegations, which "are expected to expand soon to other senior officials close to Zelensky," could weaken his "already difficult position at the negotiating table."
