Vance named three main characteristics of any peace plan for Ukraine
Any plan for a peaceful settlement between Ukraine and Russia must meet three fundamental criteria, including the cessation of hostilities while preserving Ukrainian sovereignty. This was announced on November 22 by Vice President of the United States Jay Dee Vance on his page on the social network X (former. Twitter).
According to the politician, an effective peace plan should not only end the bloodshed, but also be acceptable to both sides — both Russia and Ukraine. The settlement should also reduce the likelihood of a renewed conflict in the future.
"Any criticism of the peace settlement framework that the [U.S.] administration is working on either misinterprets that framework or distorts some important realities on the ground," Vance wrote.
The American vice president also criticized approaches based on increasing military aid to Kiev and sanctions pressure on Moscow, calling them illusory. He stated that the real world can only be reached by "smart people living in the real world," not "politicians living in a fantasy world."
On November 19, NBC News channel announced a new plan for resolving the Ukrainian crisis, which includes 28 points. Among them are the reduction of the size of the Ukrainian army and the volume of military assistance to Kiev, the granting of the state status to the Russian language, as well as the recognition of Donbass and Crimea as part of Russia.
After that, on November 20, The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) newspaper, citing sources, reported that the EU countries, which are dissatisfied with the US plan to resolve the Ukrainian conflict, are preparing a counter-proposal. The publication clarifies that Europe is trying to convince Ukraine to support their plan, which may be completed in the coming days.
Later, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced that Moscow had received a 28-point plan from Washington, which, according to him, could be used "as the basis for a final peaceful settlement."
