The State Duma talked about new requirements for electricity meters in Russia
Electricity meters in Russia should be replaced with smart devices that allow transmitting consumption data without the participation of residents. This was announced on November 22 by Sergey Kolunov, Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Construction and Housing and Communal Services.
"Starting from January 1, 2022, an order has been introduced in Russia, according to which all electric meters must be replaced with intelligent devices. These devices automatically transmit consumption data, eliminating the need for citizens to manually transmit readings every month. It's convenient and modern," Kolunov told RIA Novosti.
The parliamentarian noted that the meter should be replaced if the old device is out of order, for example, transmits incorrect readings, has cracks or defects, or if its service life has expired.
"The date of manufacture and the service life of the meter are indicated in the technical data sheet and on the device itself. The average service life is 25-30 years, and verification is carried out every 8-10 years, which is also indicated in the passport," he added.
Kolunov stressed that all the costs of replacing meters are borne by energy companies. Replacement on a paid basis is possible only on the initiative of the tenant, if the reason for the replacement is not related to defects or expiration of the service life of the device.
Earlier, on November 9, it became known that the Dorogomilovsky District Court of Moscow granted the prosecutor's office's claim and banned the dissemination of information in Russia on several websites offering neodymium magnets to interfere with the operation of utility meters. The reason for the proceedings was the monitoring of the Internet network conducted by the Dorogomilovskaya interdistrict prosecutor's office. During the inspection, Internet pages were identified that contained information about ways to illegally stop water and electricity meters using magnets, as well as advertising the devices themselves for purchase.
