The deputy commissioner of the National Hockey League (NHL), Bill Daley, commented on the hat trick of the Washington Capitals hockey club (HC) in the regular season match against Montreal, which ended with a score of 8:4. This was announced on November 22 by the Championship Internet portal.

"Nothing Alex does surprises me anymore," Daley said.

The three goals in the match were the 982nd, 983rd and 984th in Ovechkin's career, taking into account the playoffs. This season, the Russian forward scored 20 points — 10 goals and 10 assists — in 21 regular season games.

Ovechkin scored three goals during the November 20 match between HC Washington Capitals and HC Montreal Canadiens and repeated the NHL record for the longest scoring streak among players aged 40 and older. The match ended with a score of 8:4 in favor of the capital club. Later, the athlete was recognized as the first star of the day in the NHL. Ovechkin also entered the top 10 scorers of the regular season, surpassing Canadian forward Joe Sakic.
